I use a variety of material, but for the most part I use tarnish resistant copper wire with color plating, glass and gemstone beads, and various types of cords for necklaces.

The wire is tarnish resistant and either silver or gold plated. As long as the metal is cleaned regularly with a clean microfiber cloth, the plating will last a long time. Plain copper will tarnish much faster but, with proper cleaning it will last much longer.
